About

Margaret Hale was born in 1948 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. She read English at Somerville College, Oxford, and worked for many years as a librarian in Leeds before publishing her first novel at forty-four. Her work has been praised for its precise attention to domestic detail and the moral lives of unremarkable people.
