London, 12 June 1997 — PrecisionKettle today announced the immediate availability of its proprietary kettle calibration procedure, a streamlined workflow that allows any household to achieve precise 100 °C boil accuracy within three minutes using only the kettle’s existing controls and a standard household thermometer.
Calibration Procedure
Fill to the 1-litre mark
Using room-temperature water, fill the kettle exactly to the 1-litre line. This establishes a consistent thermal mass for repeatable results.
Insert reference thermometer
Place a calibrated mercury or digital thermometer probe 3 cm below the water surface. Ensure the probe does not touch the heating element.
Perform the reference boil
Activate the kettle and record the temperature at the precise moment the auto-cutoff clicks. Note the value; most domestic kettles will read between 96 °C and 103 °C.
Apply the offset correction
Using the PrecisionKettle companion dial (included with every unit), rotate the internal trimmer until the displayed temperature matches the measured value. One full rotation equals 1 °C.
Verify and log
Repeat the boil cycle once more. The target reading must now fall between 99.5 °C and 100.5 °C. Record the final offset in the kettle’s calibration log for future reference.
Why This Matters
Accurate boiling temperature directly affects extraction quality in tea and coffee, energy consumption, and the longevity of the heating element. PrecisionKettle’s protocol eliminates the 3–7 °C variance common in off-the-shelf appliances, delivering consistent results day after day.
Availability
The calibration procedure is included at no additional cost with every PrecisionKettle appliance manufactured after May 1997. Existing owners may request the free calibration kit and companion dial by contacting their regional distributor.
